Students of Georgetown , Inc. Announces New “The Word .” Scholarship Aimed At Undergraduate Students

The Students of Georgetown, Inc. (The Corp) is pleased to announce the creation and launch of a brand new scholarship intended for Georgetown undergraduates. Corp Directors and Officers approved a new $3000 line of funding for scholarships at the 2007 Upper Management Retreat. Discussions over the summer and fall mulled over many possible delivery methods for the scholarship. What resulted from those deliberations has become the brand new “The Word.” Scholarship.

MUG Announces Scholarship Winners

More Uncommon Grounds has announced the winners of this year’s MUG Scholarship. They are Mia Cambronero ($1500); Dmitriy Zakharov, Hammad Hammad, Daniel Fishman, Adam Salazar ($1000); and Holly Bryce, Stephanie Weaver, Sarah Delaney, Laura Brienza, Jennifer Nguyen and Lynsey Weston ($500). Winners were selected based on their involvement in the Georgetown community and on the strength of their written applications.

On Thursday, November 1st, the Board of Directors for the Students of Georgetown, Inc. (the Corp) unanimously voted to close down Movie Mayhem following the completion of the Fall 2007 semester. This decision was based primarily on the changing market for movies, and the rise of other online DVD rental options.

The Corp has announced that Corp Student Storage operations will move online beginning this semester, in an effort to provide greater ease for students. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) came to campus last spring to trumpet his state's efforts to combat global warming, he proclaimed that the days of environmental activism as a fringe movement based on guilt had come to an end.

The Students of Georgetown, Inc. began offering Fair Trade as an option in all its cafes on campus in the fall of 2002 after a campaign by Georgetown Students for Fair Trade. Currently, Midnight Mug and Uncommon Grounds sell exclusively Fair Trade coffee, and More Uncommon Grounds is likely to make the switch in the next week, according to Adam Giblin (SFS '06), Chief Operating Officer for the Corp.
